About the Headingley, Leeds Area

About Headingley

Headingley is a suburb of Leeds, West Yorkshire and is only 2 miles from the city centre. The area has a vast history, with Headingley or rather Hedingelei or Hedingeleia mentioned in the 1086 Domesday Book.

Headingley remained a village until the Industrial Revolution when it became a popular suburb, attracting the rich who wanted to escape the pollution of the city.

Due to its proximity of both the University of Leeds and Leeds Beckett University campuses, it’s become very popular with students.

Headingley has a vibrant food and drink scene, with a range of restaurants, cafes and bars. With so many impressive eateries, you’ll be spoilt for choice.

You can also pay a visit to the world famous Headingley Stadium for a variety of sport, watch a film in the Cottage Road Cinema, that’s one of the oldest in the UK, being in continuous use since 1912.

And if you fancy some retail therapy, there’s the Arndale Centre with a wide range of shops for all your essentials.

Whether you’re a solo traveller, couple, family or group there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
